BTT: Winter Reading

Here we go! I was looking forward to this week's question. I haven't done any reading this past week, but I hope to get into a new book soon. We're still settling into deployment mode, and I've been so busy purging, organizing, and trying to get some work done, that I just haven't gotten to it! Thankfully, I can't purge forever!

This week's question: It’s the depth of winter here where I live right now … what books do you like to read when it’s snowy and white? What books do you read to evoke a real feeling of winter (good or bad)?

That's a good one! I wouldn't usually pick out books according to season. But the first book that came to mind when I read this question was one I read a few years ago, called Every Last Cuckoo. It was a desolate type of read that ended up being extremely heart-warming. Ironically, I only picked it up at the library because my then two-year-old son grabbed it off the shelf from his stroller. I took it home and read it rather than take the time to put it back in the proper space on the shelf.

It was a great read, almost a new genre for me. It was sad and heart-wrenching, yet uplifting and satisfying. Of course, don't take my word for it! Read it yourself, and don't form any opinions about it before you do! :)

Can't wait for next week's question.

  1. This book sounds so nice! I don't really have winter-books either, I just get comfortable and pick out books that make me feel all cozy and stuff! XD Thanks for sharing!

  3. What a cute little book! I love anything autobiographical...a little escape from my own crazy life is often reading about someone else's:)

  4. I like to read mysteries or chick lit. Books that help me to escape my cold winter surroundings.
