My answer on that varies, depending on the recipient. Sometimes, I'm browsing a bookstore, and I find something that totally reminds me of a friend or a family member, and I just have to get it for them. Other times, I read a book and it affects me in a such a way that I have an urge to give it to everyone I know (Francis Chan's Crazy Love, for instance). Sadly, with so many family members using e-readers, you don't even know any more if a book would even be appreciated.
Now, I did receive a book for Christmas. It's a cookbook that I had raved about (after watching the accompanying instructional TV series) but was unavailable in my country. My mother bought it for me while she was away, which was an amazingly thoughtful gesture!

DeleteSounds like you've gifted us, in a way; shouting out about a favorite is a great way to "give."

DeleteIt really does depend on the recipient. Some people are easier to buy books for than others.
